Bad LinkedIn Profile Picture Wearing a BikiniOk, this seems so obvious to me, but here’s a tip:

Don’t wear a bikini in your LinkedIn Profile picture!!!!

Period.  End of story.

There is never a situation where this is advisable.   Even if you are a swimsuit model!  It’s just not professional and LinkedIn is a professional Social Networking site.

LinkedIn is not Facebook.  It’s not a place to share pictures of your vacation.  It’s a place to present yourself as you would if you would if you were on an interview.   Would you wear a bikini on an interview?  (If you said yes, you’re probably having a hard time finding a job.)

I see a lot of inappropriate pictures on LinkedIn, which amazes me.    But today, as I set out to write a blog post about inappropriate pictures on LinkedIn, I thought I’d have to search a bit.  I didn’t.  I typed  “Engineer” into the LinkedIn People Search field and the second picture that appeared in my search was a woman in a bikini.  And the picture was very similar to the picture accompanying this article!!!!

Your LinkedIn Profile is one of the most important tools you have to shape your personal brand.  Make sure you put a professional picture in your Profile.

It is a bit sad that advice like this needs to be given but I’m always shocked by what I see people put on the internet. The INTERNET means forever! Even if you delete something, it is still there. Remember that.
