In grade school, it was easy to spot the “cool kids” clubs. Each year, a select few “popular” people would band together to form an elite union (one that usually involved recess “sporting events”, cafeteria seating arrangements, or matching T-shirts).
While Dodgeball dynasties and color-coordinated socks are left in the past, there’s one “cool” club any grown-up can join!
I think it’s pretty safe to say that Fortune 500 CEOs are some pretty “cool” people. They are some of the most influential, brightest, and most successful business people in the world.
So how can you join their lunch table?
LinkedIn has announced that every Fortune 500 company has an executive or CEO on LinkedIn.
So you’re already in their club! Now all you have to do is move a little closer on the bench:
- Join LinkedIn Groups the “cool kids” are in (look at their profiles to see which groups they are in).
- Go for broke and send a “Link Request”
As Tim Ferriss wrote in The Four Hour Work Week, “What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do. As I have heard said, a person’s success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have. Resolve to do one thing every day that you fear.”
And I’ll even let you off the hook a little. You don’t have to reach out to the “coolest” kids (CEOs & Presidents). Anyone you reach out to that could move you forward in your journey toward your ideal career or business will do!!!
And by the way, what other club could you join that would allow you to network with the top business minds of the world? I love LinkedIn!!!
